Pokémon Reveals Special Mewtwo Promo Card for 30th Celebration

Pokémon TCG collectors will have another special card to hunt down as part of the 30th anniversary celebration. Beginning October 2, collectors who spend $15 or more on Pokémon TCG products at participating retailers can receive a special Mewtwo promo card as a gift with purchase. The offer is tied to the release of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration and will be available only while supplies last.
The Mewtwo card carries both the Pokémon 30 logo and the “What’s Your Favorite?” logo, giving it a different look from the version found in the regular set.
In the United States, the promotion will be available at GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, Five Below, Barnes & Noble, Macy’s and BoxLunch. Canadian collectors can find the promo through EB Games, while participating retailers in Australia and New Zealand include EB Games Australia, JB Hi-Fi, BIG W, Toymate and Mr Toys.
The offer will be available both in stores and online, according to Pokémon, although availability will depend on each retailer and is limited to remaining supplies. Each Mewtwo promo also comes with a separate card containing a QR code that directs collectors to more information about the Pokémon Night Out experience.
The promotion arrives shortly after the worldwide September 16 launch of Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, the special expansion marking 30 years of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set has been built heavily around anniversary-themed cards. Every card in the expansion is foil, and every booster pack contains one of 30 different Pikachu cards with unique artwork. The set also introduces a new Futuristic Rare card type, with the first examples featuring Mewtwo and Mew illustrated by Japanese artist YOSHIROTTEN. Collectors will also find new cards such as rare Day and Night Pikachu cards, Lugia and Ho-Oh cards, and a host of other Pikachu cards.
The Mewtwo store promo adds another card outside the normal booster-pack chase and gives collectors a reason to check multiple major retailers following the set’s launch. Because the card carries the special anniversary branding and is only being distributed through the limited retail promotion, it will also be distinct from Mewtwo cards found elsewhere in the 30th Celebration lineup.
The Mewtwo promotion begins October 2 with a qualifying $15 Pokémon TCG purchase and will continue only while supplies last.
