Orphan Barrel Unveils Avengers: Doomsday Latverian Cask With Rare Holographic Labels

Avengers: Doomsday Latverian Cask

Doctor Doom is getting his own limited-edition whiskey release ahead of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, complete with collectible bottle artwork and a rarer holographic label variation for fans to hunt down. Orphan Barrel has unveiled Latverian Cask, a 20-year-old American Light Whiskey inspired by the fictional nation ruled by Doctor Doom. The once-only release will begin arriving November 1 at select retailers nationwide, TheBar.com and the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Shively, Kentucky, with a suggested retail price of $200.

The collectible element starts with the bottle. Marvel artist Rod Reis created an original illustration specifically for the Latverian Cask label, incorporating Doctor Doom and Latveria into a design intended to reveal additional details the longer fans examine it. “There’s so much to pull from visually with Doctor Doom and Latveria,” said Reis. “I wanted everything to work together as one image at first, but then reward people who spend some time looking at it and start noticing those smaller references.”

Collectors will also have a variant to chase. Orphan Barrel says one in every six bottles will feature a holographic treatment on the label, creating a scarcer version alongside the standard release. That gives the Avengers: Doomsday collaboration a structure familiar to collectors in other categories. There is a standard version available across the release, but a smaller portion of bottles will carry the alternate holographic treatment.

The whiskey itself has been aging for at least 20 years. Orphan Barrel says it was made from a predominantly corn mashbill and distilled in Indiana, with the whiskey aging primarily in Kentucky and additional barrels aging in Indiana. The release marks the first American Light Whiskey offered under the Orphan Barrel brand.

“Part of what makes working on Orphan Barrel so exciting is coming across whiskies that have developed in ways you might not expect,” said Andrew Mackay, Master Blender US Whiskey, Diageo. “When we discovered this 20-Year-Old Light Whiskey, what stood out was how much character it had developed over two decades while still retaining the softer profile that defines the category. At this age, you’re working with something finite that simply can’t be recreated once it’s gone, which is exactly the kind of remarkable liquid we want to bring forward through the Orphan Barrel project.”

Latverian Cask joins a rapidly expanding group of Avengers: Doomsday collectibles and promotional releases appearing ahead of the movie’s December 18 theatrical debut.

CollectiblesNews.com recently covered Jack in the Box’s Avengers: Doomsday promotion, which includes eight collectible magnets packaged randomly with its Doomsday Dipping Box. The magnets are designed to connect together into a larger display.

The movie is also generating an expanding high-end collectibles lineup. Hot Toys recently revealed its Avengers: Doomsday Beast figure, joining the growing collection of characters and displays being produced around the film.

Latverian Cask adds another category entirely, combining a limited whiskey release with Marvel artwork and a randomly distributed label variation. With Orphan Barrel describing the whiskey as a finite, once-only release, both the standard bottles and especially the one-in-six holographic versions could give Marvel and whiskey collectors something unusual to track down.

Orphan Barrel Latverian Cask goes on sale beginning November 1 for a suggested retail price of $200, while supplies last.
