PCGS Grades First Discovery Donald Trump $1 Coin With July 4th Privy Mark

The hunt for the rare July 4th version of the 2026 Donald Trump $1 coin has produced another milestone. PCGS says it has graded the First Discovery example of the Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin carrying the special July 4th privy mark. The coin received a special First Discovery label after arriving at PCGS even before the U.S. Mint officially released the Trump dollar rolls and bags to the public.
According to PCGS, the coin was submitted on August 24 as part of an advance-release submission. Its appearance was early enough that PCGS contacted the U.S. Mint for more information about the unusual version. The Mint then confirmed directly to PCGS that 250,000 Trump dollars carrying the July 4th privy mark had been struck on July 4, 2026.
“They were all struck on July 4, 2026, and are being randomly dispersed throughout bags and rolls of the new dollar coin,” PCGS President Stephanie Sabin said. That random distribution is what has turned the special issue into one of the more unusual modern U.S. Mint chases of the year.
Unlike a separate limited-edition product collectors can simply order, the July 4th coins were mixed into the same rolls and bags as regular Trump dollars. Buyers do not know whether they have one until the coins are opened and inspected.
CollectiblesNews.com first reported on the chase coins before their release, after the Mint revealed that the 250,000 special examples would be randomly distributed.
The Trump dollars officially went on sale September 2 through the U.S. Mint’s direct-purchase channels. Interest was immediate, with the initial available inventory quickly exhausted and the products moving to backorder. Early secondary-market activity also pushed individual July 4th examples above $500.
The market moved even higher once certified examples began appearing. On September 5, a July 4th privy Trump dollar graded PCGS MS67 with a First Day of Issue designation sold for $1,990 on eBay. That sale provided one of the first significant benchmarks for a high-grade certified example of the chase coin.
The newly announced PCGS First Discovery coin occupies a different place in the story. Its importance comes from being the first July 4th privy example received and recognized by PCGS, earning the special First Discovery label.
With more Mint rolls and bags continuing to reach buyers, additional July 4th coins will undoubtedly make their way to grading services and the secondary market. But the PCGS First Discovery designation gives this particular example a place at the very beginning of the certified population.
