Shohei Ohtani’s Tokyo Series Gold Logoman Jersey Sells for Record $2,055,700

Shohei Ohtani’s game-used jersey from his first official Major League Baseball game in Japan has sold for $2,055,700 through The Realest, setting a new public auction record for an Ohtani jersey. The final price includes the buyer’s premium. The Los Angeles Dodgers road jersey was worn by Ohtani during the March 18, 2025 Tokyo Series opener against the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome, a game that also marked the first appearance of the Gold MLB Logoman in an official Major League game.
The sale follows the auction CollectiblesNews.com previewed in September, when bidding opened on a uniform carrying an unusual combination of Ohtani, Tokyo Series and Gold Logoman history. According to The Realest, the $2,055,700 result also established a new public auction record for a baseball jersey worn in the 21st century, surpassing the reported $1.792 million paid earlier this year for Aaron Judge’s jersey from his 2016 Major League debut.
The centerpiece of the Ohtani jersey remains the Gold MLB Logoman positioned above his name and No. 17. The black-and-gold logo was introduced for the 2025 season to recognize players who had won one of Major League Baseball’s major awards the previous year. Ohtani wore it after winning the 2024 National League MVP Award.
Because the Dodgers-Cubs game in Tokyo opened the 2025 MLB regular season, The Realest says the patch attached to Ohtani’s jersey became the first Gold MLB Logoman ever worn in an official Major League game. Unlike Gold Logoman patches from some of Ohtani’s later jerseys that were removed for use in Topps trading cards, this one remains intact on the complete uniform. Ohtani also wore the jersey for his first hit of the 2025 season. He finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored as the Dodgers defeated the Cubs 4-1, with his first hit coming on a 107.4 mph line drive to right field. More than 25 million viewers in Japan watched the game, according to The Realest.
The jersey carries several other identifiers from the game, including the 2025 Tokyo Series patch, the Dodgers’ No. 34 memorial patch honoring Fernando Valenzuela and the team’s Guggenheim sponsorship patch. Ohtani later signed the jersey in kanji and added the inscriptions “GU 3-18-25,” “Opening Day Tokyo Series” and “25 NL MVP.”
Its provenance is also extensive. The jersey was authenticated through Major League Baseball’s Authentication Program and definitively photo-matched to Ohtani during the Tokyo Series game by SIA Photomatching. Ohtani’s signing and inscriptions were documented and filmed through Fanatics Authentic, with the video included as part of the permanent provenance accompanying the jersey.
The winning buyer also receives a custom museum-style shrine commissioned by The Realest specifically to display the jersey. The presentation was designed around Ohtani’s return to Japan while keeping the uniform, inscriptions and Gold Logoman as the centerpiece. The $2.06 million result easily exceeds the previous public auction record for an Ohtani jersey. His game-used jersey from Japan’s opening game of the 2026 World Baseball Classic sold for $1,500,010 in March.
There has already been another major sale tied to the same March 18, 2025 game. Ohtani’s signed and game-used New Balance Ohtani 1 shoes from the Tokyo Series opener sold through The Realest for $440,055, which the auction house says established a public auction record for baseball footwear.
The record jersey sale comes during a remarkable run for Ohtani memorabilia and trading cards. In September, a 2026 Topps Chrome Gold MLB Logoman Autograph redemption sold for $2,848,700 at Goldin. That unused redemption entitles its owner to a one-of-one Ohtani card featuring a hard-signed autograph and another game-worn Gold MLB Logoman patch.
Just days earlier, Ohtani’s 2018 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autographs Red Refractor numbered to five sold for $2.44 million at Goldin. The BGS Gem Mint 9.5 rookie autograph drew 42 bids and finished as the highest-selling sports item in that auction.
Another game-used Logoman card crossed seven figures in August, when a one-of-one 2025 Topps Dynasty Gold Ohtani MLB Logoman Patch Autograph sold for $1.14 million through Fanatics Collect. The PSA 9 card carried a 10 grade for Ohtani’s autograph.
