Original Gizmo Puppet From ‘Gremlins 2: The New Batch’ Heads to Auction at Goldin

An original Gizmo puppet used in the production of Gremlins 2: The New Batch is heading to auction at Goldin, giving horror and movie memorabilia collectors a chance to own one of the film’s most recognizable characters. The puppet is being offered in Goldin’s Fall Movie Prop & Memorabilia Auction. According to the auction house, the Gizmo was production-used in the 1990 film and later repurposed with an internal posable armature so it could be displayed while retaining the character’s familiar appearance.
Standing approximately 15 inches tall, the puppet retains its original foam latex and faux fur construction along with hand-finished details. Gizmo’s brown-and-white coloring, oversized ears and expressive face made the Mogwai one of the defining practical-effects characters of the Gremlins films, and those features remain readily recognizable on the auction piece.
The puppet shows the kind of materials and craftsmanship used to bring Gizmo to life before digital character effects became commonplace. Foam latex forms the underlying character details, while the faux fur and individually finished facial elements help create the soft, expressive appearance seen on screen. The later internal armature allows the puppet to be positioned for display rather than functioning in its original production configuration.
Goldin describes the piece as beautifully preserved despite its age and production history. The auction house also notes that the puppet is backed by a Letter of Authenticity from Bear Burge, providing provenance for its connection to Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
The sequel again followed Gizmo after the Mogwai found himself in New York’s Clamp Center, where another accidental exposure to water created a new group of Gremlins. For collectors, the puppet offers a direct connection to the film’s practical-effects production rather than a later replica or licensed reproduction.
Goldin has been highlighting several recognizable horror props as part of the same fall sale. The auction also includes a production-made Freddy Krueger glove from Freddy vs. Jason, giving the event a particularly strong selection for collectors of horror movie memorabilia.
