Trove Launches ‘Pack Battles’ Where Collectors Can Compete for Each Other’s Cards
Opening a pack and immediately comparing pulls with a friend is becoming an actual competition on Trove. The collectibles platform has launched Pack Battles, a new multiplayer feature that lets two collectors open packs against each other, compare the value of the cards they reveal and compete for both cards.
The premise is simple: each participant opens a Trove pack containing a digitized version of a real, authenticated card stored in the PSA Vault. Once both cards are revealed, the collector who pulls the more valuable card wins both cards. If the two cards have the same value, each collector keeps the card they originally pulled.
That winner-takes-all format adds a competitive element to the increasingly popular concept of opening collectible card packs digitally while maintaining ownership of an actual physical card. Trove currently offers cards from major sports as well as Pokémon and One Piece. Although packs are opened through the company’s app, the cards themselves are real authenticated collectibles held in the PSA Vault and can ultimately be delivered to their owners.
Pack Battles are designed to recreate some of the rivalry that has always accompanied opening packs with other collectors. “When we were kids, opening packs with friends was an event,” Trove co-founder and CEO Michael Katz said in announcing the feature. “You showed off your best cards, cheered on your friends, and made up games where bragging rights meant everything.”
Trove takes that familiar experience a step further because the outcome determines ownership of the cards. Collectors can challenge someone they know directly or enter a battle against a randomly matched Trove user. Other users can also watch battles taking place across the platform.
The new mode includes leaderboards and TroveCash rewards, giving regular participants another reason to keep competing. Rematches are also available after a battle ends. Pack Battles are available now through Trove’s iOS app, with a web version planned for a later date.
The feature is the latest attempt by Trove to combine traditional card collecting with a digital pack-opening experience. Founded in 2025, the platform allows collectors to open digital packs that correspond to real cards kept in secure storage. Trove says its packs include published odds and verifiable outcomes, while collectors can choose to keep cards in their collection, request physical delivery or use the company’s sellback options.
Earlier this month, Trove also introduced Collection Dividends, a program that pays users a minimum annual reward equal to 2% of the value of eligible collections, calculated monthly and distributed as Trove Cash.
