Krispy Kreme Reveals Pokémon Cups and Special Packaging for 30th Anniversary Collection

Krispy Kreme has officially revealed its full Pokémon collaboration, and the promotion includes more than just themed doughnuts.

As part of the celebration of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, Krispy Kreme will release special-edition Pokémon cups in five different designs along with themed Pokémon dozen boxes and retail packaging that could give collectors something to save after the doughnuts are gone.

The promotion begins August 18 at participating Krispy Kreme shops nationwide and features doughnuts inspired by Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu and Jigglypuff, along with a Poké Ball doughnut.

CollectiblesNews.com first reported on the collaboration August 12 after Krispy Kreme teased that a “sweet adventure” was coming and an earlier leak showed Pikachu, Charmander, Jigglypuff and Poké Ball doughnuts in grocery-store packaging. At the time, Krispy Kreme had not revealed whether the promotion would include anything beyond the food itself. Now we know the packaging will be a significant part of the release.

Five Pokémon Cup Designs

Krispy Kreme says a special-edition Pokémon cup will be available in five exclusive Pokémon designs. Each cup will come filled with 10 Original Glazed Gold Dots.

For Pokémon collectors, that could make the cups one of the most interesting parts of the entire collaboration, particularly for anyone looking to assemble all five designs.

Special Pokémon Dozen Boxes

Krispy Kreme will also serve its Pokémon Dozen in special-edition packaging featuring five iconic Pokémon. Unlike the doughnuts inside, the boxes can potentially be kept as souvenirs after the promotion ends.

That possibility was something CollectiblesNews.com raised when the collaboration first leaked, when we noted that Pokémon-themed Krispy Kreme packaging itself could ultimately become part of the collectible appeal. The official announcement now confirms that special packaging is indeed part of the promotion.

Grocery Store Six-Pack Also Gets Pokémon Packaging

The retail version of the collaboration will also arrive in Pokémon-themed packaging.

Select retailers will carry a Krispy Kreme six-pack containing one Charmander Doughnut, one Pikachu Doughnut, one Jigglypuff Doughnut, one Poké Ball Doughnut and two Original Glazed Doughnuts.

Six Pokémon-Themed Doughnuts

The complete Krispy Kreme Pokémon lineup includes six designs.

The Bulbasaur Doughnut is an Original Glazed doughnut dipped in vanilla-flavored icing and topped with frosting and a Bulbasaur piece.

Charmander is represented by an unglazed shell doughnut filled with chocolate and toasted marshmallow-flavored filling, covered in orange-colored caramel icing with red and gold sugar and topped with a Charmander piece.

The Squirtle Doughnut is an Original Glazed doughnut with cotton candy-flavored buttercreme, sanding sugar, nonpareils and a surfing Squirtle piece.

Pikachu gets an unglazed shell filled with lemon-flavored Kreme filling, vanilla icing, drizzle, nonpareils and a Pikachu piece.

Jigglypuff appears on an Original Glazed doughnut with strawberry-flavored buttercreme and strawberry-flavored cookie pieces.

A Poké Ball design rounds out the collection with an Original Glazed doughnut covered in vanilla-flavored icing, red sprinkles and chocolate icing.

Pokémon Collection Arrives August 18

The Pokémon Doughnut Collection will be available for a limited time beginning August 18 at participating Krispy Kreme shops nationwide. Customers can purchase the doughnuts individually or by the dozen in shops or through Krispy Kreme’s app and website. Preorders for the dozen began August 13.

Krispy Kreme is also offering a promotion on August 22 in which customers wearing Pokémon attire to participating shops can receive one free Original Glazed Doughnut, limited to one per guest.
