NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s Leather Jacket Sells For $960K at Auction
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s black leather jacket just became a major tech collectible.
The Tom Ford leather jacket, offered by Sotheby’s as “The Jensen Jacket,” sold for $960,000 after being presented as a one-lot auction called The CEO’s Uniform. The final price turned a piece of executive fashion into one of the year’s more unusual crossover collectibles, landing somewhere between tech history, celebrity memorabilia and modern cultural artifact.
Sotheby’s estimated the jacket at $40,000 to $60,000 before the auction. The final $960,000 result blew past that estimate and showed how far Huang’s public image has traveled beyond the technology world.
The auction house described the black leather jacket as Huang’s signature look and an item associated with some of NVIDIA’s most important public moments. Sotheby’s said Huang has worn this style of jacket for more than a decade during product launches, developer conferences and major announcements tied to the rise of artificial intelligence.
The jacket was offered with provenance from Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA. Sotheby’s also said the jacket was photomatched by PSA to Huang at Hon Hai Tech Day in Taipei on October 18, 2023, and that the signature was authenticated by James Spence Authentication.
The jacket was marketed as a physical artifact tied to one of the most recognizable CEOs in the world at a time when NVIDIA has become central to the AI boom. The jacket has become part of Huang’s visual identity, much like a stage costume, athlete uniform or movie prop becomes tied to the person who wore it.
The sale also had a philanthropic angle. Sotheby’s said the auction was organized by Long Journey Ventures to benefit the Edge Institute, a nonprofit that supports builders through fellowships, grants and residencies.
The sale also arrives as NVIDIA has been leaning into collector culture in a different way. NVIDIA said the cards would be distributed through Summer of RTX giveaways, social channels and select gaming events.
Together, the trading cards and the $960,000 jacket sale show two very different sides of NVIDIA collecting. One is a free fan giveaway built around gaming nostalgia. The other is a six-figure auction item tied directly to the company’s CEO and the AI moment that made him a global business figure.
