Rare Mego Green Goblin Figure Hits $90,000 at Hake’s, Surpassing Previous Record

Green Goblin Mego

One of the rarest carded Mego action figures has already climbed to $90,000 at Hake’s Auctions, with bidding still open on a 1977 Green Goblin from Mego’s World’s Greatest Super-Heroes line. The figure is packaged on what Hake’s identifies as the rare 1975A card and has been graded AFA 80 NM. At the time the lot was cataloged, Hake’s said only two examples of this carded Green Goblin had been graded by AFA, with the current figure the only example graded AFA 80 and just one graded higher.

Bidding had reached $90,000 after eight bids as of November 7, already well beyond the auction house’s $30,000 to $50,000 estimate. The lot remains open as part of Hake’s November 2026 Pop Culture Premier Auction, which concludes November 18. The figure itself is the 8-inch Mego Green Goblin, No. 51300/2, featuring the Type 2 body along with boots and a satchel. Hake’s notes that the card carries a 1975 Marvel Comics Group copyright even though the figure is identified as a 1977 issue.

Hake’s describes the 1975A carded version as extremely rare and says the Green Goblin was discontinued by Mego shortly after this version was released, contributing to its scarcity. The auction house calls it one of the hardest Mego issues to find and a “grail item” for elite Mego collectors.

The AFA 80 example has subgrades of C80 for the card, B85 for the blister and F90 for the figure. Hake’s notes that the card has been punched and has a faint horizontal crease above the blister, along with slight color rubbing where the tip of Green Goblin’s hat has contacted the card. The listing also notes some light aging and color rubs on the back. The figure is housed in an archival case.

What makes the current bidding particularly notable is the performance of the only other graded example. Hake’s sold that Green Goblin, graded AFA 80+, in July 2022 for a then-record $76,700. With the current AFA 80 figure already sitting at $90,000 before the auction has closed, bidding has moved $13,300 above that previous result. The final price could climb higher before bidding ends November 18.

The lot is part of Hake’s November 2026 Pop Culture Premier Auction, a 625-lot sale featuring vintage action figures, toys and other pop-culture collectibles. Hake’s specifically highlighted the Green Goblin as one of the rarest Mego figures included in the auction.

Bidding on the Mego World’s Greatest Super-Heroes Green Goblin is scheduled to close November 18 at Hake’s Auctions.
