Mattel Brick Shop Announces New Hot Wheels Racer Series

Mattel is bringing its Brick Shop building line down to the familiar size of traditional Hot Wheels cars with the launch of the new Hot Wheels Racer Series, a collection of 1:64-scale buildable vehicles priced at just $4.99 each. The new series will debut in January 2027 with six cars spanning modern performance vehicles, enthusiast favorites and one of Hot Wheels’ best-known original designs. The first lineup includes the ’24 Camaro ZL1, ’18 Audi TT RS, Maserati MCPura, ’91 Acura NSX, ’99 Honda S2000 and Hot Wheels Bone Shaker. Mattel says the collection will eventually grow to 20 different buildable models by the end of 2027, giving collectors a much larger lineup to pursue after the initial wave.
Unlike Mattel Brick Shop’s larger automotive building sets, the Racer Series is designed around the same 1:64 scale that has defined Hot Wheels die-cast cars for decades. Each vehicle uses smooth resin bricks and incorporates a metal base plate, functional metal axles with rolling wheels, rubber-like tires and custom parts designed to capture the shape and character of the real or fictional vehicle being recreated.
The six debut models are all compact builds. The ’24 Camaro ZL1 contains 29 pieces, the ’18 Audi TT RS has 29 pieces, the Maserati MCPura uses 27 pieces, the ’91 Acura NSX contains 29 pieces, the ’99 Honda S2000 also has 29 pieces and the Bone Shaker is made from 28 pieces. Mattel says the smaller scale creates a new entry point into the Brick Shop line while keeping the details and materials that have defined the brand since its launch in 2025. Step-by-step instructions are included with each model, and the finished cars are designed to function as rolling vehicles rather than static brick displays.
Ted Wu, General Manager and Global Head of Vehicles and Building Sets at Mattel said: “With the Hot Wheels Racer Series, we’re expanding our signature Mattel Brick Shop approach to brick-building to the iconic 1:64 scale that has defined Hot Wheels die-cast cars for nearly 60 years. Through thoughtful design and engineering, we have accomplished this without compromising the authentic details, craftsmanship and quality that has defined Hot Wheels for generations. The result is a building experience that feels distinctly Mattel Brick Shop and unmistakenly Hot Wheels.”
The Racer Series also gives Hot Wheels collectors a different way to approach familiar vehicles. Instead of buying a factory-assembled die-cast model, collectors build the vehicle themselves while still ending up with something sized to fit alongside a traditional Hot Wheels collection. The inclusion of a metal base, rolling metal axles and rubber-like tires also gives the new line a hybrid feel between a construction set and a conventional collectible car.
The Bone Shaker may be particularly familiar to longtime Hot Wheels collectors. While five of the first six releases are based on real automotive models, Bone Shaker comes directly from the Hot Wheels universe, giving the opening wave one of the brand’s signature original designs alongside Chevrolet, Audi, Maserati, Acura and Honda.
Mattel launched Brick Shop in 2025 with larger, more detailed buildable vehicles inspired by automotive brands and entertainment properties. The new Racer Series represents a significant expansion of that concept by moving into a lower-priced, smaller-scale format that could make completing an entire run of models much more practical for collectors.
The Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Racer Series launches in January 2027. The first six vehicles will each carry a suggested retail price of $4.99, with 14 additional models planned to bring the collection to 20 vehicles by the end of the year.
