Best Buy Invites Open for Pokémon Delta Reign Booster Boxes

Collectors hoping to buy a sealed booster box of Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution — Delta Reign from Best Buy will have to get an invitation first, with the retailer using a special sales system for the high-demand release rather than simply opening orders to everyone at the same time.

The Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution — Delta Reign Booster Box contains 36 booster packs and is priced at $160.99 through Best Buy. The expansion is scheduled for release November 6, but Best Buy currently lists the booster box as an “Exclusive sales event” available by invitation. The retailer says the product is in limited supply and expected to be in high demand, meaning anyone can request an invitation but not everyone who asks for one will necessarily be selected.

Collectors interested in purchasing the booster box first need to sign in to an existing Best Buy account or create one and request a free invitation. Best Buy is also encouraging customers to download its app and enable notifications, although selected customers will receive an email as well. Once an invitation is issued and the sales event goes live, the recipient will have 24 hours to complete the purchase. Not receiving an invitation immediately does not necessarily mean a collector is out of the running. Best Buy says customers who are not selected during the first round will remain on the invitation list for possible future restocks. Wait times can vary, and the retailer says it will contact customers only if they are selected.

Best Buy also makes clear that invitations are not necessarily being distributed randomly. According to the retailer, selection criteria may include a customer’s purchase history, membership status and other factors. Best Buy does not provide a specific formula for how those factors are weighted or guarantee that requesting an invitation will result in an opportunity to buy the box.

The Delta Reign Booster Box itself contains 36 packs from the new Mega Evolution expansion. Best Buy says Delta Reign includes more than 140 cards, more Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, over a dozen Trainer cards including three new Legendary Stadiums, and more than 35 Pokémon and Trainer cards featuring special illustrations.

Mega Rayquaza ex is at the center of the expansion, with Best Buy’s product description also highlighting Mega Golurk ex, Mega Malamar ex and Mega Golisopod ex. The set officially releases November 6 alongside several other Delta Reign products, including an Elite Trainer Box, Booster Bundle, three-pack booster and individual sleeved boosters.

Best Buy is using its high-demand reservation process on several Pokémon products around the November 6 release date, but the Delta Reign Booster Box is specifically labeled as an Exclusive sales event on the retailer’s current Pokémon launch page. The separate Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box is priced at $49.99, while the six-pack Booster Bundle is listed at $26.94.

The invitation system gives Best Buy a different approach to one of the most sought-after formats in a new Pokémon TCG release. Rather than forcing collectors into a single first-come, first-served online rush, interested buyers can request access and then wait to see whether Best Buy selects them for a purchase opportunity.
