Pan’s Labyrinth 20th Anniversary Collector’s Editions Set Cineverse Pre-Order Record

Pan's Labyrinth Blu-Ray

Cineverse says the upcoming 20th anniversary physical release of Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth has already become the biggest home entertainment pre-order launch in the company’s history. The milestone comes ahead of several new physical editions of the 2006 film, including a 4K + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition SteelBook and a Blu-ray Collector’s Edition scheduled for December 1. Strong demand has also prompted Cineverse to add a 4K + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition for release on December 29.

For physical-media collectors, the releases mark the arrival of Pan’s Labyrinth in a new 4K restoration overseen by del Toro himself. Cineverse says the restoration was created directly from the film’s original 35mm elements. The company did not disclose the number of physical copies pre-ordered, but said the launch has already established a new Cineverse record.

“While industry trends in home entertainment are down, the titles we have chosen to invest in are trending up. This says a lot not only about the filmmakers that we have partnered with, including Guillermo del Toro, but also the halo effect that our marketing for specialty theatrical runs have with fandoms that want to own physical collectible copies, and watch these films over and over again – and in the case of Pan’s Labyrinth, now for the first time in restored 4K,” said Cineverse Chief Motion Pictures Officer Yolanda Macias.

“Pan’s Labyrinth” recently returned to theaters as part of its 20th anniversary celebration, including its first theatrical presentations in 4K and 3D. Cineverse says the rerelease has grossed more than $2 million at the box office.

The home entertainment rollout begins November 10, when the restored film becomes available for digital ownership. The SteelBook and Blu-ray Collector’s Edition follow December 1, digital rental begins December 8, and the additional 4K + Blu-ray Collector’s Edition arrives December 29.

Written and directed by del Toro, Pan’s Labyrinth was released in 2006 and stars Ivana Baquero, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones and Sergi López. The film received six Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars for cinematography, art direction and makeup.

The record pre-orders are notable at a time when physical movies increasingly compete with digital ownership and streaming. Cineverse is positioning the Pan’s Labyrinth anniversary editions not simply as another home-video rerelease, but as physical collectibles aimed at fans who want a permanent edition of the film on their shelves.

With multiple Collector’s Editions, a SteelBook and a del Toro-supervised 4K restoration, Pan’s Labyrinth is now giving physical-media collectors several ways to add the film to their collections.
