Build-A-Bear Brings Back Original Mascot Bearemy for 30th Anniversary Vault Collection

Bearemy

Build-A-Bear Workshop is opening its vault for its 30th anniversary, beginning with a new plush inspired by Bearemy, the company’s original mascot. The new Bearemy is now available at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and online while supplies last. The nostalgic release kicks off “30 Years of the Stuff You Love,” a year-long anniversary celebration that will include returning vault favorites, special-edition products, collaborations and other anniversary releases.

Bearemy first appeared as a furry friend in 1999 and became one of the most recognizable characters from Build-A-Bear’s early years. The new version is designed as a tribute to that original bear, bringing the longtime mascot back for collectors who remember the character while introducing him to a new generation. The release also carries a charitable component. Build-A-Bear says it will donate $3 from every Bearemy sold between October 27, 2026 and December 31, 2027 to the Build-A-Bear Foundation.

Bearemy is only the first piece of the company’s anniversary plans. Beginning in January 2027, Build-A-Bear plans to release additional exclusive vault and special-edition anniversary drops throughout the year. The company says those releases will celebrate memorable furry friends and moments from nearly three decades of Build-A-Bear history.

That could make the anniversary particularly interesting for longtime collectors. Rather than focusing on a single commemorative plush, Build-A-Bear is using the milestone as an opportunity to revisit characters and designs from its past while mixing in new collaborations and special-edition products.

The celebration also comes as Build-A-Bear approaches three decades since its first store opened at the St. Louis Galleria in October 1997. Founded by Maxine Clark, Build-A-Bear introduced an interactive retail model that allowed customers to create and personalize their own stuffed animals, including choosing a furry friend, stuffing it, taking part in the company’s Heart Ceremony and adding clothing and accessories. What began as a single Workshop in St. Louis has since grown into more than 650 locations around the world.

“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a celebration of the millions of fans who have embraced Build-A-Bear and made us part of their lives,” said Chris Hurt, chief executive officer of Build-A-Bear Workshop. “We are incredibly grateful for the loyalty and memories our fans have shared with us. From one Workshop in St. Louis to more than 650 stores around the world, it is remarkable to see how far we have come. As we look toward our next 30 years, we continue to think bigger, including the opening of our largest Workshop yet at ICON Park in Orlando. We’re just getting started.”

The 30th anniversary Bearemy is available beginning October 27 at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and Build-A-Bear’s website while supplies last.
