LEGO and Daft Punk are officially joining forces, with the partnership already producing plans for a new LEGO set based on the electronic duo’s iconic pyramid stage from the 2007 Alive tour. The LEGO Group just announced the collaboration, saying Daft Punk will enter the LEGO universe through products, content and brand experiences. The first major collectible to emerge from the partnership will be a fan-designed LEGO Ideas project that has now been approved to move forward as an official LEGO set.

The project began as the LEGO Ideas Daft Punk Concert submission created by Luxembourg-based father and son Patrick Harboun and his son. Their model recreates the pyramid stage associated with Daft Punk’s 2007 Alive tour. The project originally won the Grand Prize in the LEGO Ideas Music to Our Ears challenge in 2020 before later reaching the 10,000-supporter threshold on LEGO Ideas. LEGO now says the submission will advance into development and officially become a set that fans will be able to build.

The model shown in LEGO’s announcement is still identified as a fan model and not the final product. Patrick Harboun, owner of the LEGO Ideas Daft Punk Concert submission said: “This all started as a creative escape during lockdown between my son and I because of our shared love of Daft Punk and LEGO building. We never dared imagine it would take off in this way. Watching our passion project become part of an official collaboration is an incredible experience, and it’s a reminder of what makes the LEGO Ideas community so special. That a simple idea, shared by fans, really can become something much bigger.”

Cédric Hervet, Creative Director for Daft Punk said: “The pyramid stage is one of the most recognizable expressions of Daft Punk’s visual world, so it feels fitting that this fan-created design will be center stage of this partnership. Fans have always played an important part in Daft Punk’s story, and we are excited to see that creativity reflected through the LEGO universe.”

LEGO also introduced the partnership with a new film featuring Daft Punk minifigures following a holographic red LEGO brick through a changing brick-built environment before eventually arriving behind a LEGO console. The film uses “Voyager” from the 2001 album Discovery and “Human After All,” the title track from the duo’s 2005 album. Fans had received their first clue a day earlier. A final transmission on “Daft Punk – WDPK 83.7” on October 21 included a 30-second teaser built around a red 2×4 LEGO brick but offered no explanation of what the image meant.

The collaboration will extend beyond the upcoming LEGO Ideas set. LEGO says Daft Punk will appear through additional events and content crossing music, culture and creative spaces, although specific future products have not yet been announced.
