U.S. Mint Announces 2026 American Innovation Reverse Proof Dollar Set Release Date

2026 American Innovation Coin Set

The U.S. Mint will release its 2026 American Innovation $1 Coin Reverse Proof Set on October 13, bringing together four designs honoring innovations and innovators from Iowa, Wisconsin, California and Minnesota. The four-coin set will go on sale at noon ET for $60, with an initial household order limit of two. All four coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint and carry the “S” mint mark. The Mint lists a mintage limit of 99,792 sets.

The Mint says this set is the only way to obtain the 2026 American Innovation dollars in reverse proof, which uses reflective design elements against frosted fields to create a strong contrast across the coins. The four pieces are housed together in a clear plastic lens and come in a specially designed package with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Iowa’s coin honors Dr. Norman Borlaug, widely known as the “Father of the Green Revolution.” The reverse shows Borlaug holding a sheaf of wheat, surrounded by wheat stalks representing his work developing stronger, more productive crops. Inscriptions include “NORMAN BORLAUG” and “FATHER OF THE GREEN REVOLUTION.”

Wisconsin is represented by the Cray-1 supercomputer, which became one of the defining machines of early high-performance computing. The coin uses a stylized overhead view of the computer’s distinctive circular design, with inscriptions identifying it as the “CRAY-1 SUPERCOMPUTER.”

California’s coin features a young Steve Jobs seated in front of a Northern California landscape of rolling hills and oak trees. The Mint describes the scene as a reflection of the environment that helped shape his approach to technology and design. Along with Jobs’ name, the reverse carries the inscription “MAKE SOMETHING WONDERFUL.”

Minnesota’s design celebrates mobile refrigeration. It depicts a 1940s-era truck equipped with an early front-mounted refrigeration unit, along with symbols representing the wide range of temperature-sensitive goods made easier to transport because of the technology. The reverse includes the inscription “MOBILE REFRIGERATION.”

All four coins share the American Innovation series obverse featuring the Statue of Liberty in profile. The 2026 versions also include a stylized gear privy mark representing industry and innovation, with a Liberty Bell and the number “250” incorporated into the design to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The edge inscriptions include “2026,” the mint mark and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

The American Innovation $1 Coin Program has been running as a multi-year series recognizing notable innovations and innovators from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. Each year brings four new reverse designs, making the annual reverse-proof set a compact way for collectors to pick up that year’s complete group in a single finish.
