Target Hosting Pokémon 30th Anniversary Event Sunday With Giveaways and Reported Mewtwo Promo Card
Pokémon fans could be in for a busy Sunday at Target. Target is holding a Pokémon 30th Anniversary Celebration on September 27 from noon to 4 PM local time at these participating stores, with activities, giveaways and Pokémon merchandise planned throughout the afternoon. The retailer says the event will include a draw-your-own Pokémon TCG card activity, themed photo opportunities and giveaways while supplies last, along with Pokémon Pokopia demos for Nintendo Switch 2 at select locations.
Target is also currently listing several Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration products, including an Elite Trainer Box, tins, ex boxes, a Poster Collection and a Knock Out Collection. Much of the attention ahead of Sunday, however, is centered on reports of a special Mewtwo promotional card. Pokémon product tracker PokeTCGAlerts reported Saturday that participating stores are expected to distribute a 30th Anniversary-stamped Mewtwo promo to ticket holders. According to the account, around 100 people per store are expected to receive tickets on a first-come, first-served basis, with each ticket reportedly allowing the holder to purchase up to two of each eligible 30th Celebration product SKU available at that location. Those ticketing rules and the Mewtwo promo have not been detailed on Target’s public event page, so availability and procedures could vary by store. PokeTCGAlerts reports that participating locations are expected to receive the 30th Celebration tins, while some stores may also have Elite Trainer Boxes and Poster Collections. Ticket holders are also reportedly expected to receive a small activity bag tied to the family portion of the event.
Signs appearing at some Target locations suggest stores are already preparing for heavy demand. PokeTCGAlerts shared reports Saturday that at least one location was asking customers not to begin lining up until after the store closed Saturday night. The account also says employees at multiple locations expect significant turnout and that adult collectors will be allowed to participate despite the celebration being promoted as a family event.
The reported Mewtwo promo could become the biggest draw for Pokémon TCG collectors, particularly if quantities are limited to roughly the number of event tickets being distributed. Combined with the chance to purchase sought-after 30th Celebration products, that could make Sunday’s event one of Target’s busier Pokémon promotions of the year.
