Adidas Launches New Pokémon Collection With Mewtwo, Gengar, Pikachu and Charmeleon Sneakers

Adidas has launched a large new Pokémon collection built around some of its most recognizable shoe models, with designs inspired by Mewtwo, Gengar, Pikachu, Charmeleon and other characters. The Adidas U.S. Pokémon storefront currently lists 65 products across shoes, clothing and accessories, spanning both adult and kids sizes. The lineup includes Pokémon versions of the Samba OG, Superstar II, Superstar Vintage, Superstar II Mid, Handball Spezial and Adistar Control 5, along with tracksuits, hoodies, jerseys, pants and a Pokémon lunch bag.

Some of the most interesting pieces are the sneakers designed around individual Pokémon. A purple Adidas Pokémon Samba OG takes its cues from Mewtwo, with a shimmery light-purple leather upper and details meant to reference the character’s speed and psychic abilities. Adidas also added Poké Ball and Super Psy Bolt-inspired lace details to the design. The adult version is priced at $110.

Mewtwo also appears on the Pokémon Handball Spezial. That version uses an Ice Lavender color scheme with Pokémon graphics, a gum sole and both Poké Ball and Mewtwo lace jewels. Adidas describes the shoe as a Pokémon take on its classic 1970s indoor model. The adult Handball Spezial is priced at $120.

Gengar gets one of the more dramatic designs in the collection. The Pokémon Adistar Control 5 comes in purple, Energy Ink and Magic Lilac, with a large Gengar silicone piece positioned above the Adidas stripes. A zigzag tongue detail and Gengar lace jewel complete the theme. Adult versions are priced at $130, while kids versions are listed at $100.

The Superstar lineup gets several Pokémon treatments of its own. One red Superstar II is inspired by Charmeleon, using a textured leather upper designed to resemble dragon skin along with claw-shaped stripes, Pokémon graphics and a character-themed lace jewel. The adult pair is priced at $110. Adidas is also offering a $180 Superstar Vintage in Pure Tangerine and Equipment Green, along with a $180 Superstar II Mid and several other Superstar II colorways.

Pikachu gets some of the most playful designs aimed at younger fans. The Pokémon Superstar Quickon transforms the familiar shell-toe shoe into what Adidas describes as a plush, Pikachu-inspired design. The yellow, black and white shoes use an elastic closure for easier on-and-off wear and include Pokémon and Adidas branding on the sockliner and heel pull. They are priced at $65.

The collection goes well beyond footwear. Adidas has released Pokémon tracksuits, loose-fit hoodies, jerseys, denim pants, joggers, T-shirts and coordinated kids sets. There is also a yellow Pokémon lunch bag priced at $50.

One of the highest-priced apparel pieces is the Adidas Pokémon Jacket at $280. The black-and-violet men’s Originals jacket was already listed as sold out on Adidas’s U.S. site.

Instead of centering the entire collection around Pikachu, Adidas has spread the designs across multiple Pokémon and several of its most recognizable shoe models. Mewtwo, Gengar and Charmeleon all receive sneakers with character-specific materials, colors and accessories, while Pikachu appears throughout the kids assortment.

The Adidas x Pokémon collection is available now through Adidas, with individual products subject to size and inventory availability.
