Grateful Dead Collector’s-Edition Wine Features Peel-Off Label and Hidden Artwork

Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel

The Grateful Dead and Gnarly Head Wines are marking five years of collaboration with a new collector’s-edition bottle that gives Dead Heads something to keep long after the wine is gone. The limited-edition 2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel arrives this month with a removable sticker label featuring the band’s familiar “Steal Your Face” imagery, reworked with Gnarly Head’s distinctive vine design. The label is specifically designed to peel away from the bottle, allowing fans to save it as a collectible.

There is another design waiting underneath. Removing the outer label reveals hidden artwork inspired by the Grateful Dead’s “Space Your Face” motif, giving the bottle two layers of artwork rather than the typical single-label presentation. The cosmic interpretation builds around the skull imagery that has become one of the most recognizable visual elements associated with the band.

The release was created to celebrate the fifth year of the partnership between Gnarly Head and the Grateful Dead, but the packaging clearly leans into the band’s long connection with collecting. Posters, concert tickets, shirts, pins, records and other merchandise have been part of Dead Head culture for decades, and the new bottle is being presented as another piece of memorabilia for that audience.

David Lemieux, the Grateful Dead archivist and legacy manager, said, “The Grateful Dead community has always embraced collectibles, artwork, and creative expression as extensions of the band’s music and culture. This new limited-edition release captures that spirit perfectly and offers a unique way to connect with the Grateful Dead’s iconic imagery while enjoying great-tasting wine.”

Inside the collectible packaging is a 2024 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel made from old vines in California’s Lodi region. Gnarly Head describes the wine as featuring dark berry and plum flavors with vanilla and peppery spice. The 2024 vintage received 94 points and a Double Gold medal at the 2026 California State Fair, along with a 91-point rating and Best Buy designation from Wine Enthusiast.

The 2024 Gnarly Head x Grateful Dead Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel began shipping to retailers nationwide in September with a suggested retail price of $12. The collector’s-edition release will remain available only while supplies last.
