NBA 2K27 Launches With Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose Covers, Expanded MyTEAM Card System
NBA 2K27 is officially out worldwide, and this year’s release gives basketball collectors several reasons to take notice beyond the game itself. The latest installment in 2K’s long-running NBA series launched with three different editions featuring Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose as cover athletes. The Standard Edition, priced at $69.99, features Wembanyama, while Clark appears on the $99.99 Deluxe Edition. Rose fronts the $149.99 Ultra Edition, which 2K says will only be available for a limited time through September 6.
That lineup gives the 2026 release a particularly strong crossover with the sports collectibles market. Wembanyama and Clark have become two of the most closely followed young athletes in basketball cards, while Rose remains a popular name with collectors from his MVP-era career.
The limited availability of the Derrick Rose Ultra Edition also makes that version one to watch among collectors of physical sports video games and NBA 2K releases. 2K has not described the edition as a numbered collectible, however, and its announcement only says it will be offered for a limited time.
Inside the game, 2K is also making substantial changes to MyTEAM, its card-collecting mode. The company says NBA 2K27 was built around the idea that “every card has value.” For the first time, every eligible MyTEAM player card can gain Player XP through use, allowing cards to level up as they are played rather than remaining static once acquired. The Exchange has also been expanded so that virtually any Player Card can be used, with Free Agent cards excluded. That gives collectors another use for cards that might otherwise sit unused in their digital collections.
Meanwhile, the MyTEAM Auction House is now unified across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. According to 2K, combining those marketplaces creates the largest pool of community-listed MyTEAM cards in the mode’s history. For longtime MyTEAM players, those changes shift more attention toward the cards themselves. Cards can now be developed through Player XP, moved through an expanded Exchange or bought and sold in a broader cross-platform marketplace. MyTEAM will continue to include modes such as Triple Threat Online and Clutch Time Online, which will return as part of a rotating selection of limited-time modes.
The broader game also includes several major additions, including the first co-ed City in franchise history, a new MyCAREER Eras mode and a MyNBA Legacy mode capable of spanning a 100-year basketball universe. The Standard, Deluxe and Ultra editions of NBA 2K27 are available now, with the Derrick Rose Ultra Edition scheduled to remain available only through September 6.
