Barbie Teams With Designer Yoon Ahn for Futuristic Robot-Inspired Collector Doll

Barbie is heading into the future for one of Mattel Creations’ more unusual designer collaborations. The new Barbie Signature Barbie x Yoon Ahn Doll pairs Barbie with Yoon Ahn, co-creator of fashion label AMBUSH, for a $100 collector release inspired by anime, street style and futuristic technology.

Rather than dressing Barbie in a traditional fashion look, Ahn and Mattel have created what the company describes as a “robot-esque” version of the character. The doll has anime-inspired hair, a headset and sculpted armor details running from head to toe, giving the design a clean, mechanical appearance. She also comes with a robotic cat companion designed in the same futuristic style. The cat has six points of articulation, while Barbie has 13, allowing both pieces to be posed together.

Mattel says the collaboration imagines a “Barbie of tomorrow,” blending Ahn’s minimalist fashion approach with technological elements. The release also introduces a newly sculpted body for Barbie. Mattel lists the Kit face sculpt for the doll, with Suim Noh credited as doll designer and Diana Leto as packaging designer. It carries Barbie Signature’s Black Label designation. A doll stand and Certificate of Authenticity are included.

Ahn is known for her work with AMBUSH and for combining streetwear, luxury fashion and experimental design. Mattel describes her as a “genre-defying designer” and says the Barbie project gave her an opportunity to create a completely new vision for the character.

The Barbie x Yoon Ahn Doll is a Mattel Creations exclusive and is listed at $100. Mattel notes that availability and purchase limits are subject to change.
