Pokémon Reveals New ex★ Card Series and Mega Lucario Z ex

Pokémon gave collectors a major look at what is coming next to the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the closing ceremonies of PokémonXP and the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, including the TCG debut of Mega Lucario Z and a mysterious new ex★ logo.

Mega Lucario Z is officially coming to the Pokémon TCG as Mega Lucario Z ex, with Pokémon describing the card as a powerful Mega Evolution Pokémon ex. The reveal came through a video shown during the closing ceremonies that offered the first looks at both Mega Lucario Z ex and Sigilyph ex.

Pokémon also used the video to tease several new Mega attack rare cards. The sneak peeks included Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Zygarde ex, Mega Greninja ex and Mega Rayquaza ex, giving collectors an early look at several major Pokémon that will be featured in the expanding Mega Evolution era of the TCG.

The biggest mystery came at the end of the reveal. Pokémon teased a new series logo reading “ex★,” but did not explain exactly what the designation means or how the new series will work. That leaves collectors with plenty of unanswered questions. Pokémon has not yet detailed what separates ex★ cards from existing Pokémon ex.

The star designation is sure to attract attention from longtime collectors, but Pokémon has not made any official connection between ex★ and earlier star-branded Pokémon cards. Until more information is released, the logo remains a teaser rather than a fully explained new card mechanic or rarity.
