CGC Announces Private Signing With J.K. Simmons for Comics and Cards

J.K. Simmons is joining the CGC Signature Series for a private signing, giving collectors an opportunity to send in comic books and cards featuring characters and projects tied to the Academy Award-winning actor. Simmons is particularly well known to comic book fans for playing J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, a role he later reprised across other Marvel projects including Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He has also portrayed Commissioner James Gordon in Justice League and voices Omni-Man in Invincible.
Collectors can submit both comics and cards directly to CGC for the event. Items outside those categories can be handled through CGC’s official send-in partner, Twin Cities Comics. The standard signing fee for comic books is $285 per item. That price includes Simmons’ autograph, CGC grading and encapsulation with the yellow CGC Signature Series label. CGC estimates a six-week turnaround after the signing, or approximately eight weeks when optional CGC pressing is added.
Collectors who want Simmons to add a character name can choose a $435 option. Character inscriptions are limited to one name, meaning a collector could request either “Omni-Man” or “Nolan Grayson,” for example, but not both names on the same item.
Card submissions are priced slightly lower at $265 per item. That includes Simmons’ signature, grading and encapsulation with the CGC Signature Series label, with an estimated six-week turnaround following the signing. Previously graded CGC comics can also be submitted. CGC will remove an already certified book from its holder for an additional $5, although the company cautions that the comic must be graded again afterward and is not guaranteed to receive the same grade.
Simmons’ long list of genre roles gives collectors plenty of possibilities for the signing. Beyond Spider-Man and Invincible, he has provided the voice of Tenzin in The Legend of Korra and Ford Pines in Gravity Falls, giving the event appeal across several comic, animation and pop-culture collecting communities.
CGC must receive all U.S. submissions by October 20, 2026. International submissions are due two weeks earlier to allow additional delivery time. Collectors shipping directly to CGC are instructed to write “JKS” on all sides of the outside of their submission box so the items can be properly routed to the signing.
