Magic the Gathering Marvel Secret Lairs

Magic: The Gathering is preparing another major Secret Lair release, and this one brings together Marvel characters, Lofi Girl and artwork from several well-known creators in a single eight-drop event.

Secret Lair: A Perfectly Normal Superdrop launches August 31 at 9 AM PT through MagicSecretLair.com. Wizards of the Coast will open a pre-queue one hour earlier at 8 AM PT, with customers already waiting when the sale begins randomly assigned a place in line. Adding products to a cart will not reserve them, and items are only secured after checkout is completed.

Half of the new drops are Marvel collaborations. Secret Lair x Marvel: Earth’s Mightiest Pets brings six cards featuring Marvel’s animal characters, while Hulk SMASH! is built around cards including Anger, Gratuitous Violence, Search for Tomorrow and Unnatural Growth. Rishkar’s Expertise is reimagined as “Joe Fixit’s Expertise.”

Another Marvel drop showcases the distinctive artwork of Dan Hipp. Its five-card lineup includes Mystical Dispute, An Offer You Can’t Refuse and Training Grounds, along with Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder reimagined as “Mister Sinister, Hubris Unbound” and Bristly Bill, Spine Sower as “Man-Thing, Marsh Protector.”

The fourth Marvel collection takes a much different direction. Secret Lair x Marvel: True Believers in Love uses classic Marvel romance imagery such as Thanos and Death, with six cards including Happily Ever After, True Love’s Kiss, Run Away Together, Savor the Moment, Grave Pact and Thrill of Possibility.

Outside Marvel, Secret Lair is teaming up with Lofi Girl for Beats to Cast To. The five-card drop includes Felidar Guardian as “Lofi Cat,” Starfield of Nyx as “Snowman Starfield,” Careful Study, Merchant Scroll as “Grandma’s Scroll” and Paradise Mantle as “Cozy Headphones.”

Three artist-driven collections round out the Superdrop. Artist Series: Ian Miller features Shivan Dragon, Animar, Soul of Elements, Korvold, Fae-Cursed King and Tsabo Tavoc with Miller’s fantasy artwork. Cosmic Chill by Robin Eisenberg includes Orvar, the All-Form, Sage of Hours, See Double, Slip Through Space and Sway of the Stars. Featuring: Gene Luen Yang draws from Journey to the West, reimagining several existing Magic cards as characters from the story. Kibo, Uktabi Prince becomes “Monkey, Awakened to Emptiness,” Ilharg, the Raze-Boar becomes “Pigsy of the Eight Precepts,” Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs becomes “Sandy, Awakened to Purity,” and Dosan, the Falling Leaf becomes “Tripitaka, Seeker from Tang.” Quest for Renewal completes the five-card drop.

Each individual drop will cost $29.99 in non-foil form or $39.99 for the foil edition. Wizards is also offering several larger bundles, including A Perfectly Normal Marvel Bundle containing foil and non-foil versions of all four Marvel drops for $259.99. Collectors looking for everything can purchase A Perfectly Normal Everything Bundle for $519.99. That package includes both foil and non-foil versions of all eight drops. An all-foil bundle is priced at $299.99, while the complete non-foil bundle costs $224.99.

There is also a bonus card tied to larger purchases. Customers will receive a foil Command Tower promo for every $199 spent while supplies last. Orders over $99 will qualify for free shipping under the terms of the Secret Lair sale.
