LEGO Super Mario Sets Revealed, Includes New Minifigures, Mario Kart Sets and Bowser’s Castle

Lego Super Mario Sets

LEGO is giving its Super Mario line a major makeover for 2027, finally bringing traditional LEGO minifigures of Mario and other Nintendo characters into the theme. The LEGO Group officially unveiled eight new Super Mario sets at gamescom in Cologne. The new range shifts the theme toward minifigure-based roleplay, with characters, vehicles and locations pulled from both the Super Mario and Mario Kart universes. LEGO first teased the arrival of Super Mario minifigures during its MAR10 Day celebrations earlier this year.

The smallest release is Mario’s Pipe Jump, a 61-piece, $9.99 set that includes the new Mario minifigure alongside a familiar green pipe and Goomba. A lever lets builders launch Goomba out of Mario’s way as he goes after a coin. Mario also gets behind the wheel in Racing with Mario, an 84-piece Mario Kart set priced at $14.99. His kart has a built-in shell launcher, with a cone and Banana serving as obstacles around the course.

The $19.99 Mario’s Beach Adventures takes things in a different direction. The 196-piece set gives Mario swimming shorts and includes a refreshment stand, sun lounge, umbrella, wave and Sidestepper, creating a small beach scene rather than another traditional platforming environment.

Luigi & Bowser Jr.’s Race brings two more characters into the new minifigure format. The $29.99, 104-piece set features Luigi and Bowser Jr. racing for a coin using karts equipped with shell launchers. It is also significant for the LEGO Super Mario line because it is the first set in the theme specifically designed for children ages 4 and older. That younger age range continues with Yoshi at Mario’s House, a 147-piece set priced at $39.99. The build recreates Mario’s home with a garden, bedroom and kitchen, along with a green slide connecting the floors. Mario and Yoshi minifigures are included.

Mario Kart gets a much larger treatment with Bowser’s Rumbling Race. The 409-piece, $59.99 set includes Bowser’s Bowser Bruiser, Toad in a Zoom Buggy, Goomba driving a Biddybuggy and a brick-built Cow riding the Tune Thumper. The vehicles incorporate play features including shell launchers, fireballs and flames shooting from the back.

The biggest set announced is Fire Mario & Bowser’s Castle. Priced at $99.99, the 850-piece build recreates Bowser’s fortress and includes Fire Mario, Bowser, Koopa Troopa and Goomba. The castle incorporates lava balls, traps and a hidden treasure chest filled with coins, giving the new minifigures a substantial environment in which to play or display.

Fire Luigi gets his own set as well. Fire Luigi vs. Koopa Troopa Battle contains 241 pieces and costs $29.99, with a castle tower, cannon launcher and ? Blocks. Fire Luigi can be loaded into the cannon and launched toward the tower as he attempts to reclaim it from Koopa Troopa.

LEGO and Nintendo first launched the interactive LEGO Super Mario building system in 2020. This next phase marks a noticeable change in direction, with LEGO saying the refreshed theme will now center on creative play using traditional minifigures while continuing to draw from recognizable Super Mario characters, karts and environments.

All eight newly announced LEGO Super Mario sets are scheduled to launch January 1, 2027 through LEGO.com, LEGO Stores and select retailers worldwide.
