1-of-1 Gold Jimothy Rookie Card Hits eBay With Bidding Over $8,000

The 1-of-1 Gold Jimothy Rookie Card that became the biggest chase of the Seattle Mariners’ unusual August ballpark giveaway has surfaced on eBay, and bidding has already climbed into four figures.
As of Tuesday night, the eBay auction for the Gold Jimothy had reached $8,300 after 76 bids, with more than five days remaining. The listing had also attracted 436 watchers. The seller describes the card as ungraded and in near mint or better condition.
The card started out as a free stadium giveaway less than three weeks ago. As CollectiblesNews.com reported before the August 5 game, the Mariners distributed Jimothy Rookie Cards to the first 20,000 fans entering T-Mobile Park. Mixed into those cards were several chase versions, topped by a single Gold 1-of-1. The promotion also included a Silver version limited to 100 copies, a Shiny Blue version numbered to 500 and another parallel limited to 2,000.
It did not take long for the Gold card to be found. T-Mobile Park announced after the game that 13-year-old Abby had pulled the one-of-one, sharing a photo of her holding the card.
The secondary market for Jimothy cards began developing almost immediately. CollectiblesNews.com reported on August 6 that base cards were already selling for around $35, while one of the limited cards numbered to 100 had been marked sold at a $999 Buy It Now price, although a lower best offer may have been accepted.
At the time, the Gold card was already known to have been pulled but had not yet been put up for sale. Its appearance at auction now gives collectors their first chance to see what open bidding might value the rarest card from the Seattle Mariners promotion.
What began as a quirky giveaway built around Seattle’s Jimothy raccoon phenomenon has quickly developed into a legitimate collectibles story. With the auction still active, $8,100 is not a final sale price. But the bidding already puts the 1-of-1 Gold Jimothy in a very different category from the other cards handed out free at T-Mobile Park on August 5.
