SpongeBob x One Piece Happy Meal Commercial Goes Viral

The SpongeBob SquarePants x One Piece Happy Meal crossover has a new animated commercial, giving collectors another look at the character mashups being turned into McDonald’s toys for the global promotion.
The 20-second spot brings the two animated worlds together with SpongeBob appearing as Monkey D. Luffy, Patrick Star as Roronoa Zoro and other SpongeBob characters taking on the roles of familiar One Piece characters. The commercial was shared by ToonHive on August 19 as the Happy Meal promotion continues rolling out internationally.
The advertisement itself also has a notable animation connection. Parker Simmons, creator of Cartoon Network’s Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, said he directed the commercial. Simmons shared the spot on his own X account following its release, giving fans a behind-the-scenes credit for the short animated crossover.
The commercial provides another showcase for the unusual Happy Meal toy line, which combines the designs of SpongeBob SquarePants characters with members of the One Piece cast. The promotion is being rolled out across multiple countries rather than as a single-market release. The toys are already available in Canada, with other international markets also receiving versions of the promotion. The One Piece franchise officially confirmed the McDonald’s crossover earlier in August, following the first appearances of the toys and promotional material.
The United States is also expected to receive the collaboration, although McDonald’s U.S. had not added it to its current Happy Meal promotion as of August 19. U.S. restaurants are presently offering the Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal, which launched August 18 with eight collectible figures. That means collectors looking for the SpongeBob x One Piece toys in the U.S. will have to watch for a separate rollout.
Reaction to the new commercial has become another part of the crossover’s momentum. The Happy Meal toys themselves remain the main attraction for collectors. By combining characters from two franchises with enormous international fan bases, the promotion gives One Piece collectors, SpongeBob fans and Happy Meal toy collectors a new crossover set to track as it reaches additional countries.
