U.S. Mint Bringing Special 2026 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars to Collectors
The U.S. Mint is giving coin collectors another major 250th anniversary release to chase, with special 2026 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars scheduled to go on sale August 25.
The Morgan Silver Dollar Enhanced Uncirculated Coin and Peace Silver Dollar Enhanced Uncirculated Coin will both become available at noon EDT. Created for the Semiquincentennial of the United States, the coins are limited one-year issues featuring the dates “1776 ~ 2026” and a special Liberty Bell privy mark containing the number “250.”
For the first 26 hours after sales begin, the Mint will impose a household order limit of 10 coins for each release. Collectors can also sign up for the Mint’s “Remind Me” alerts ahead of the August 25 launch.
The 2026 Morgan Silver Dollar is struck in 99.9% fine silver and brings George T. Morgan’s classic design back with the anniversary modifications. The original Morgan Dollar was minted from 1878 through 1904 before returning in 1921, and the design has become one of the most recognizable issues in U.S. coin collecting.
Liberty appears in profile on the obverse, wearing a cap, floral elements and a crown bearing the word “LIBERTY.” The traditional 13 stars and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” inscription are joined by the special “1776 ~ 2026” date. On the reverse, an eagle with outstretched wings holds arrows and an olive branch, surrounded by a wreath and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The Peace Silver Dollar also returns in enhanced uncirculated form. Originally approved in December 1921 as the replacement for the Morgan Dollar, the Peace Dollar was designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci and was minted through 1935. The design was intended to recognize the United States’ growing international role while commemorating the sacrifices, victory and peace associated with World War I.
Its obverse retains the familiar profile of Liberty wearing a radiant crown, along with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRVST” and the anniversary date “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse shows an eagle at rest holding an olive branch above the word “PEACE,” accompanied by “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The Morgan and Peace Dollars have remained popular with generations of U.S. coin collectors, and the 2026 versions add several features unique to America’s 250th anniversary. With the dual date, Liberty Bell “250” privy mark and one-year status, the August 25 release gives collectors distinct anniversary versions of two of the country’s best-known silver dollar designs.
