Best Buy Announces Limited Pokémon Drop and Free Trading Kit

Best Buy is putting Pokémon cards at the center of its 60th anniversary celebration, with a limited Pokémon TCG drop planned for a special one-day in-store event on Saturday, August 22.
The retailer has confirmed that the Pokémon offer will be available only in Best Buy stores on August 22, with limited quantities available while supplies last. Best Buy is not revealing the special in-store pricing ahead of the event, saying prices for the one-day offers will only be unveiled inside stores that day.
Best Buy’s promotional artwork for the Pokémon drop shows two products collectors will want to watch for: the Pokémon TCG First Partner Illustration Collection Series 3 and a Mega Evolution – Pitch Black Elite Trainer Box. The image also shows Pitch Black booster packs alongside the products. Best Buy’s FAQ says inventory for both Pokémon products will be available, although the amount stocked at individual stores will vary.
The Pitch Black release is already being featured prominently on Best Buy’s Pokémon page, where the retailer tells collectors to look for the latest Pokémon TCG products at local Best Buy locations. Best Buy notes that the products are in-store only, available in limited quantities and subject to selling out.
Collectors hoping to take part in the August 22 drop may want to arrive early. Best Buy says the anniversary offers will be limited and that stores will have a line-management system in place, with tickets provided to customers if needed. There will be no rainchecks for the one-day deals, and Best Buy has set a limit of one item per offer per customer for the anniversary event.
The Pokémon promotion is part of Best Buy’s broader 60th Anniversary Sale. The company traces its history back to 1966, when it opened as Sound of Music before adopting the Best Buy name in 1983. The anniversary sale runs through August 23, but the special Pokémon drop and other one-day in-store offers are limited specifically to August 22.
The retailer also has another Pokémon event scheduled a week later. On August 29 from noon to 2 PM, select Best Buy stores will host a Pokémon Trading Card Game event celebrating 30 years of Pokémon. Attendees can receive a free trading kit while supplies last and participate in learning, playing and trading activities. No purchase is necessary.
For Pokémon collectors, that gives Best Buy two consecutive Saturdays of hobby-related activity, beginning with the limited anniversary product drop on August 22 and followed by the Pokémon TCG 30th anniversary event on August 29.
