Magic: The Gathering Reveals The Hobbit Secret Lair Superdrop With Five Limited Drops
Magic: The Gathering is returning to Middle-earth with a new Secret Lair x The Hobbit Superdrop featuring five limited releases inspired by Bilbo Baggins’ journey.
Secret Lair: A Marvelous Mathoms Superdrop launches August 17 at 9 AM PT through MagicSecretLair.com. Wizards of the Coast says the collection includes five separate drops built around moments, characters and treasures from The Hobbit.
Collectors spending $199 will also receive an Arcane Signet as “Heart of the Mountain,” featuring artwork based on the gemstone found beneath the Lonely Mountain. The promo will be available only while supplies last.
Second Breakfast and Beyond
Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Second Breakfast and Beyond contains seven Food Tokens.
The drop will be available for $29.99 in non-foil and $39.99 in foil.
Over the Edge of the Wild
Over the Edge of the Wild includes five cards: Cloudshift, Tocasia’s Welcome reimagined as “Quite a Merry Gathering,” Stony Silence, Imp’s Mischief and Seize the Spoils.
The non-foil edition is priced at $29.99, while the foil version is $39.99.
Smaug’s Spoils
The Smaug’s Spoils drop focuses on artifacts and includes Fellwar Stone as “Erebor Heirloom,” Lightning Greaves, Liquimetal Torque, Sol Ring and Thought Vessel.
It will also be offered for $29.99 non-foil and $39.99 foil.
Desolation
Secret Lair x The Hobbit: Desolation contains Defile, Diabolic Intent, Dread Return, Mirkwood Bats and Read the Bones.
Like the other standard drops, it will cost $29.99 in non-foil and $39.99 in foil.
He Who Walks Unseen Gets Special Foil Treatment
The fifth release, Secret Lair x The Hobbit: He Who Walks Unseen, includes Arcane Heist, Contentious Plan, Curiosity, Solve the Equation and Windfall.
Unlike the other four drops, this release is offered as an “Out of Sight Edition” for $59.99. Wizards also noted that He Who Walks Unseen is the official name of the drop, although the printed envelope incorrectly reads “He That Walks Unseen.”
Three Bundles Available
Collectors looking to buy several drops together will have three bundle options.
The A Marvelous Mathoms Everything Bundle costs $259.99 and includes both foil and non-foil editions of Second Breakfast and Beyond, Over the Edge of the Wild, Smaug’s Spoils and Desolation.
The Riddles in the Dark Foil Bundle includes the foil editions of those same four drops for $150.99, while The Bag-End Non-Foil Bundle includes their four non-foil editions for $119.96.
Wizards says the pre-queue for the August 17 launch opens at 8 AM PT, one hour before the sale begins. Customers already in the pre-queue will be randomly assigned a place in line when the sale starts, while anyone entering after 9 AM will join in the order they proceed to checkout.
Adding a product to a cart does not reserve it, and products are only secured once checkout is completed. Orders over $99 also qualify for free shipping, subject to the terms listed by Secret Lair.
