USPS Releases New Diagonal U.S. Flag Forever Stamped Envelope

The U.S. Postal Service has released a new patriotic stamped envelope featuring a bold, angled view of the American flag. The Diagonal U.S. Flag Forever stamped envelope debuted August 7 at the BALPEX stamp show in Linthicum Heights, Maryland.
Rather than depicting the full flag, the design focuses closely on its individual elements.
Five red stripes and four white stripes run diagonally across the right side of the stamp image, while a portion of the blue field appears in the upper left with 23 white stars. The words “USA” and “FOREVER” appear along the bottom in black lettering.
Designer Bryan Duefrene said he wanted to create a more striking interpretation of the familiar flag design. “I was looking for a bolder, eye-catching way of portraying the flag,” Duefrene said, explaining that he experimented with different cropped views before settling on the tilted composition.
The new release continues a long tradition of patriotic imagery on U.S. postage. USPS noted that previous stamped envelopes have included a 2020 design featuring Old Glory surrounded by gold stars and a 2013 issue showing an eagle carrying two American flags and a shield.
The Postal Service also highlighted the history of the American flag itself, tracing its design back to the Flag Act of 1777 and later changes that ultimately established 13 stripes and one star for each state. The current 50-star flag has remained unchanged since 1960 following Hawaii’s admission to the United States.
For stamp and postal stationery collectors, the new issue is a Forever product. Its postage value will always equal the stamped-envelope rate in effect at the time it is used, even if postal rates increase after purchase.
The Diagonal U.S. Flag stamped envelope is available through the USPS Postal Store, by phone, through USA Philatelic and at Post Office locations nationwide.
