MLB Draft Lottery Ping Pong Ball Card Featuring Chase Burns Connection Sells for $8,100

One of the most unusual baseball relic cards in recent years has sold for $8,100, with the card containing an actual ping pong ball used during the MLB Draft Lottery.

The one-of-one autograph card contains the ping pong ball that awarded the Cincinnati Reds the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, according to an Instagram post highlighting the sale. Cincinnati ultimately used that selection to draft pitcher Chase Burns out of Wake Forest.

Burns has since reached the majors and was selected as a 2026 MLB All-Star, giving the relic an additional connection to one of baseball’s emerging young stars.

What makes the card unusual is that its centerpiece is not a jersey patch or piece of a bat or game-used baseball. Instead, the relic is one of the actual numbered ping pong balls used to determine the order of the MLB Draft.

Topps introduced the one-of-one MLB Draft Lottery relic autographs in 2024 Bowman Draft, incorporating real ping pong balls from the lottery into cards and pairing them with autographs. The Reds’ ping pong ball ultimately became tied to Burns when Cincinnati selected him with the second pick in the 2024 Draft.

That gives the card a direct connection to both the event that determined Cincinnati’s draft position and the player eventually selected with that pick.

Burns was one of three Wake Forest players selected within the first 10 picks of the 2024 Draft, going No. 2 overall behind Travis Bazzana.

The $8,100 result shows how collectors are responding to trading cards that incorporate memorabilia from moments outside the traditional playing field.
