Complete Set of 16 Pokémon Time Magazine Variants Graded CGC 9.8 Heads to Goldin Auction

A complete set of all 16 Time Special Edition: Pokémon magazine cover variants will be offered in a Goldin auction closing August 9. The collection includes every Pokémon cover published for the special edition between 2024 and 2026. Each magazine has been certified and graded CGC 9.8.

The group is being offered together as Lot 399, giving collectors an opportunity to acquire the entire cover run in one purchase rather than tracking down each variant individually. The seven covers released in 2024 feature Pikachu, Gengar, Eevee, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Mew.

Six additional variants followed in 2025, featuring Arcanine, Blastoise, Venusaur, Charizard, Mewtwo and Gyarados. The final three covers in the set were released in 2026 and feature Mega Charizard X, Rayquaza and a combined Ho-Oh and Lugia design.

The special edition magazine explores the history and continuing popularity of Pokémon, from the franchise’s video game origins to its expansion into animation, movies, toys and trading cards.

It also examines the Pokémon Trading Card Game and topics including collecting, rarity and the growing card marketplace.

All 16 magazines have been encapsulated in CGC magazine holders. CGC said its holders include a heat-sealed hologram, impact-resistant outer plastic and pressure locks intended to keep each magazine securely positioned.

At the time of publication of this article, bidding had already exceeded $15,000 with buyer’s premium. The complete CGC 9.8 set will be available through Goldin’s August 9 auction.
