eBay Live Collectibles Sales Surge as Card Scanner Passes 80 Million Uses

eBay highlighted continued growth across its collectibles business while reporting stronger revenue and marketplace sales for the second quarter of 2026. The company said eBay Live recorded another record quarter, with gross merchandise volume growing by approximately eight times compared with the same period last year.
eBay Live now operates across seven markets and has continued expanding its lineup of livestream shopping events. During the quarter, the platform connected buyers with curated collectibles and memorabilia through broadcasts tied to major cultural and sporting events, including the World Cup.
The company also reported growing use of its artificial intelligence-powered trading card scanner. The feature has now surpassed 80 million cumulative scans. Collectors can use the scanner to identify cards, review pricing information and create listings. eBay said it also improved its trading card listings by adding more detailed market data, including Card Ladder indexes.
The indexes allow users to follow changes in the values of cards connected to particular athletes, characters, sports and collectible card game categories.
Authentication and grading remained another focus for eBay during the quarter.
The company expanded its Authenticity Guarantee program in the United Kingdom to cover eligible trading cards valued at more than £500. In the United States, eBay broadened its PSA grading option to include autographed cards pulled directly from packs.
The company said the changes were part of its effort to reinforce its position in the collectibles market and give buyers and sellers greater confidence when completing transactions.
Goldin, which is owned by eBay, also reported several major sales during the quarter. A Michael Jordan card sold for $4.3 million, while Wayne Gretzky’s Stanley Cup-winning jersey brought $2.8 million. According to eBay, the Gretzky jersey set a record as the most expensive hockey jersey ever sold.
The collectibles developments came as eBay reported $22.4 billion in gross merchandise volume for the quarter ending June 30. That represented a 15 percent increase on a reported basis and a 14 percent increase when adjusted for currency fluctuations.
Revenue reached $3.1 billion, also increasing 15 percent from the previous year.
Although eBay did not disclose a separate total for its collectibles category, the company identified collectibles as one of the areas central to its strategy. Its recent investments have centered on livestream selling, authentication, card identification, market pricing and access to professional grading.
