Dungeons & Dragons Announces World of Warcraft, Dark Sun and Star Wars Tabletop Releases

Wizards of the Coast has revealed a major lineup of upcoming Dungeons & Dragons products, including a new World of Warcraft book, physical map accessories, the return of Dark Sun and a future Star Wars crossover.

The announcements were made at Gen Con 2026 as part of what Wizards described as the next era of Dungeons & Dragons. For collectors of tabletop books, boxed accessories and campaign-setting releases, the presentation introduced several new additions planned for 2026 and 2027.

The first release under the new Dungeons & Dragons Universes Beyond banner will be Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, arriving November 17, 2026.

Created with Blizzard Entertainment, the gameplay expansion brings World of Warcraft back to tabletop gaming for the first time in two decades. Players will be able to recreate their existing characters or create new ones while exploring familiar zones, dungeons and enemies from more than 20 years of the franchise.

The release will be joined by an Icecrown Citadel Map Pack. The physical set includes full-size poster maps and tokens for use with a digital adventure built around the famous raid.

The included adventure takes characters from level 16 through level 20 and places them against 12 high-level bosses.

Wizards also announced that the post-apocalyptic Dark Sun setting will return in 2027.

The revival will include a suite of books and accessories centered on Athas, a world ruled by sorcerer-kings and defined by harsh environments and survival-focused adventures. The new products will anchor what Wizards is calling the Season of Survival.

The announcement did not provide individual product names, formats, prices or release dates for the Dark Sun lineup.

A surprise appearance by Darth Vader closed the Gen Con presentation and confirmed that Star Wars is coming to Dungeons & Dragons in 2027.

Wizards did not reveal whether the collaboration will include books, boxed sets, accessories or other physical products. Additional information is expected later.

The partnership will mark the first official Dungeons & Dragons tabletop crossover with the Star Wars universe.

Wizards announced several projects tied to classic Dungeons & Dragons settings.

Original Dragonlance creators Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman are working on a new tabletop role-playing book compiling 40 years of knowledge and lore from the setting. Wizards described it as the most ambitious Dragonlance volume produced to date.

Luke Gygax is also completing an adventure using previously unseen and unfinished material left by his father, Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax. The project could be available as early as 2027.

Another newly announced adventure, Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, will return players to the game’s original campaign setting. The story centers on Drelnza, the vampire daughter of Iggwilv, also known as Tasha, as she attempts to claim her birthright.

Additional future releases will include a Ravenloft product from Ghostfire Gaming in 2027, followed by Eberron and Forgotten Realms projects planned for 2028 through other publishing partners.

The first release from the newly announced lineup will be Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft on November 17, followed by additional books, accessories and crossover products throughout 2027.
