Rare Double-Telescoping Obi-Wan Kenobi Figure Sells for $70,332 at Hake’s Auctions

A rare carded Ben “Obi-Wan” Kenobi action figure from Kenner’s original Star Wars toy line sold for $70,332 at Hake’s.

The 1978 figure remains sealed on its original 12 Back-A card and includes the scarce double-telescoping lightsaber. It was graded AFA 85 NM+ and had a pre-auction estimate of $75,000 to $125,000.

The figure received individual subgrades of 80 for the card, 85 for the blister and 85 for the figure.

According to the Hake’s auction listing, the collectible is one of only three examples graded AFA 85, with none graded higher in the AFA population report. It was also the fifth carded double-telescoping Obi-Wan Kenobi figure offered by Hake’s and the second in that grade.

The original card is unpunched and features the stock-keeping unit printed on the footer. Hake’s noted scattered light edge wear, a slight warp and a small color break near the hanger-hole perforation.

The blister was described as crystal clear and free of cracks and dents. The figure and its rare double-telescoping lightsaber remain visible inside the unopened package.

The early lightsaber variation features a thin inner section extending from the thicker outer portion of the weapon. Its limited use has made carded examples particularly difficult for original Kenner Star Wars collectors to obtain.

The $70,332 result fell below the price achieved by another AFA 85 double-telescoping Obi-Wan sold by Hake’s in January 2025. That figure, offered from the Jeff Jacob Collection, realized $105,182. Hake’s also sold an AFA 80 carded example for $76,700 in November 2017.
