John Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever Suit Headlines $10 Million Propstore Auction

John Travolta’s white suit from Saturday Night Fever is heading to auction as the top lot in a four-day sale of film and television memorabilia valued at a combined $10 million.

Propstore’s Summer Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction will take place from August 26 through August 29 in Los Angeles. The sale includes more than 1,700 original props, costumes, production materials, autographed items and other entertainment collectibles.

The leading lot is the three-piece white suit worn by Travolta as Tony Manero in the 1977 film. It is expected to sell for between $200,000 and $400,000.

Travolta wore the suit during the movie’s disco competition, and it also appeared in many of the film’s best-known promotional images. The costume was later owned by film critic Gene Siskel and carries a handwritten inscription from Travolta.

Another major lot is Frank the Rabbit’s principal costume from Donnie Darko. Worn by James Duval in the 2001 cult film, the costume is estimated at $100,000 to $200,000.

The piece is being offered at public auction for the first time after previously being displayed at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. Its appearance at auction coincides with the film’s 25th anniversary.

A screen-matched mosquito in amber fossil from the opening scene of Jurassic Park also carries a $100,000 to $200,000 estimate. The prop represents the discovery that leads to the creation of the dinosaurs in the 1993 movie.

The auction also includes one of the first six Golden Snitch props created for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Made by prop designer Pierre Bohanna, it was used on set as a lighting and scale reference. Propstore estimates it will sell for between $25,000 and $50,000.

Other highlights include Johnny Depp’s scissorhands from Edward Scissorhands, estimated at $60,000 to $100,000, and Michael Keaton’s Batsuit from Batman Returns, estimated at $60,000 to $120,000.

Leeloo’s screen-matched, light-up Multi Pass from The Fifth Element also carries an estimate of $60,000 to $120,000.

Additional collectibles include Jack Torrance’s stunt axe from The Shining, Robert Downey Jr.’s light-up Iron Man Mark 46 upper-body armor from Captain America: Civil War and Michael Jackson’s Were-Cat prosthetic teeth from the Thriller music video.

The Iron Man armor is expected to bring between $40,000 and $80,000, while the Thriller teeth are estimated at $20,000 to $40,000.

The first day of the auction will include public bidding at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, along with online, absentee and telephone bidding. The remaining three days will be conducted through global online, absentee and telephone bidding.

Propstore is also holding a public exhibition in West Hollywood from July 30 through August 2, giving collectors an opportunity to view selected lots before the auction begins.
